a collaboration between photographer James Wilson and theatre maker Drew Taylor
first developed as part of the Imaginate Fringe Festival, 2013.
our vision is to create a malleable space that young people and their parents can swiftly decorate to their specifications, creating a "sanctuary" - a safe, fun place that represents them as people and as a family unit, and then to photograph the group in the install.
we supply fabrics, papers, large boards, costume items, decorative hangings, floor cloths and stationary supplies with which to create sanctuaries. all supplies, where possible, will be sourced as recycled or reclaimed.
we interact with family groups for up to 30 mins at a time, and if interest is substantive, we create a sign-up sheet for those who wish to take part.
once taken, James' photographic portraits are uploaded to a USB for the family to take home for free.
