skills

I am a multifaceted practitioner and I have worked in almost every area of theatre production.

My approach as a director often involves working as director/writer, director/designer or director/choreographer - drawing upon my varied experience.

I have also worked as a writer, director, dramaturg and movement director for many other practitioners and feel very passionate about being part of any creation process, be it my own or not.

If you would like to work with me in any of the roles detailed below, please get in touch, I'd love to chat.

WRITER

I am an experienced performance poet, I have performed across the country - venues include The Barbican London, The Basement Brighton [commissioned for the Brighton International Festival], Norwich Arts Centre, Traverse Theatre, Colchester Arts Centre, The Tron Glasgow, Lemon Tree Aberdeen, An Lanntair Stornoway, Old Red Lion London, The Cube Bristol, The Junction Cambridge and Latitude Festival. I am interesting in integrating performance poetry into contemporary theatre and would love the opportunity to work with more companies in this way. Other than my own works, at present I have worked with Alan Greig Dance Theatre and Xena Productions providing poetic text for performances.

As a playwright my work has been developed by National Theatre of Scotland, Glasgay!, Theatre 503 and the RSAMD. I have had rehearsed readings of my work at the Citizens Theatre and Arches Theatre Glasgow, the New Wolsey in Ipswich and the Traverse Theatre Edinburgh. My short play "A girl walks into a bar" was seen as part of Natalie Ibu's 'AVE IT at the Old Vic Tunnels in 2011. I was a Traverse 50 selected writer in 2013 - an initiative set up by the Traverse Theatre to work with 50 new writers.

DRAMATURGY / MOVEMENT DIRECTION

I specialise in dramaturgical consultation for dance theatre performances - having worked extensively with Scottish practitioners Xena Productions [choroegrapher Christina Gusthart http://www.xenagusthart.com/xena-productions/] and Culturel Mongrel Dance Theatre [choreographer Emma Jayne Park http://culturedmongreldance.com/] I am eager to work with more choreographers in this way.

I have worked as a movement director for several companies including Untitled Projects, Conflux Scotland, Jenna Watt and YMT UK.

EDUCATION

I lecture in performance at several scottish colleges - mainly teaching movement for actors and acting for dancers. I have also delivered education programmes/workshops for many UK organisations including: Aberdeen Performing Arts, Apples and Snakes, Conflux Scotland, The Garage Norwich and YMT UK. I have directed several youth theatre productions and feel that my specialty lies in working with teenagers developing productions for and by this age group. As a practitioner I value my work in outreach and education as highly as I do my professional output.

Artists I believe should be constanly evolving their craft and as a largely self taught theatre maker I know the value of creating your own CPD programme. As an assistant director I have worked with Hal Chambers/Eastern Angles, Hilary Westlake, Pamela Carter and Stewart Laing.
