44 STORIES

An athletic poetic exploration of visibility and activism. A dance theatre celebration of life and triumph through prejudice. A kaleidoscopic cabaret built from verbatim.

Mr Livingston Knows and her House of No Woes have tasked themselves with sharing stories from competing commonwealth countries that currently outlaw homosexuality. The frenetic foursome will guide you through tales of Tongan Miss Galaxy Queen Beauty Pageants, Caribbean LGBT crimes,  Mr Gay Ethiopia and his husband, Samoan transgender footballers, the Ugandan anti-homosexuality act and many many more... Combining verbatim text, poetry, varying dance styles, couture costumes, fake flowers and glitter; 44 STORIES reveals the humans affected by anti-gay legislation from 44 countries that competed in Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

★★★★ - a thrilling mix of burlesque, cabaret and agitprop that deserves to be seen again, and soon -

JOYCE MACMILLAN, The Scotsman

The show was first performed in July 2014 at the Arches Theatre Glasgow as part of Glasgow Commonwealth Games Cultural Festival 2014. The project was supported by the Arches and commissioned by Creative Scotland.
