Sanctuary Queer Arts
Launched in September 2020, Sanctuary is Scotland’s newest arts organisation for LGBTQIA+ folx. Our hope is to add solace, stimulation and safety for queer people and allies in Scotland…and to have a lot of fun doing it!
We’re passionate about amplifying LGBTQIA+ voices. We do this by creating artistic development opportunities for queer performance makers (of all ages and experience) and bringing the community together for events, workshops, performances and celebrations.
We know, now more than ever, how crucial it is to establish isolation-fighting creative opportunities for LGBTQIA+ artists, who are already so side-lined in the arts.
The chief principal of Sanctuary is development from the ground-up – to truly enact change we must cultivate confidence in a younger generation whilst continuing to nurture existing queer voices. Our 3 activity strands complement each other, directly implementing this ethos. Our hope for Sanctuary Queer Arts is to add solace, stimulation and safety for queer people and allies, moving towards a time when young people won’t feel like this:
“I don't want a safe space.
I want the world to be a safe space.”
queer young person, April 2019
