Drew creates plays, short and long form spoken word performance texts and libretto/lyrics for musical theatre. His projects are influenced heavily by live-art, cabaret performance and the playwriting of Caryl Churchill. Mental health and LGBTQ+ narratives always feature, told through a blackly comedic lens. As a [retiring] performance poet, Drew is always looking for ways to leak contemporary poetry on to traditional stages.
Drew’s plays have been funded for development and production by Creative Scotland and Arts Council England, he has had rehearsed readings performed at Traverse Theatre Edinburgh, Citizens Theatre Glasgow, New Wolsey Ipswich and Theatre 503 London.
Drew won the 2015 New Playwright’s Award, mentored by Lynda Radley and David Greig.
Drew was part of the 2012 Traverse 50 writer’s development scheme and he was recently awarded the David McLellan [Full] Scholarship for Glasgow Caledonian University’s MA TV Fiction Writing programme 2020/21.
